Pop my marathon cherry...
just a short blurb on the first marathon....
nipple rash can happen to guys....my poor right nipple.
armpit rash, not as prevalent, but accidental application of sports deep heat can have devasting effects.
you run down the first 10km....
first 23km was easy. too easy. wrongly so.....
from 26km to 33km, the kilometres wear you down.
35km to 39km, you tell yourself to finish strongly.
at 41km you find yourself recharged. having UNKLE in your ears helped.
at finish, you tell yourself to look strong.
when your mind is starting to wander, "inspiring" quotes like "Every Step You Take Brings You Closer To The Finish Line" and "Life Is Not A Rehearsal. Give It Your All" begin to mindfuck you. cos you start to ask the "what ifs" questions. like.... if i am not going to get to the finish line, like maybe i will die at the 35km mark, every step i take now will bring me to my death. and fuck, you mean my life is it? i always thought i was living and rehearsing for something greater.
at 31km mark i told myself if i finish this i will be done with marathons.
at 41km mark i asked myself how i should train for next year's run.
dave gahan, with the rest of depeche mode (remixed by deep dish), was making so much sense along east coast park when they said to me "you've got to take this moment, then let it slip away. let go of complicated feelings. then there's no price to pay."
finishing the run to the sounds of born slippy by underworld, best feeeeeeling ever! made the mistake of kicking when karl hyde said "in skin-tight trunks, and we all went mental, and danced."...... i almost ran out of gas with the last 150m to go..... if not for this fat slob whose flabby ass was taunting me to finish ahead of him....
