Thomas Pink has a new shirt out. It's a 3-in-1 shirt.
What this shirt does is that the collar and cuffs can be detached. So you can sort of mix and match. White colour and white cuffs or same stripes as the rest of the shirt.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - somebody please bring in Thomas Pink! Looking at the success of Raoul, surely that is an indication of the pent up demand in Singapore men?
GQ thinks it's one of the coolest stuff this year.
I think it is cool. But I'm not greedy. Any Thomas Pink shirt will do.
Consider this, if Pink sets up store here, basically we'll be making baby steps towards the men's fashion throne currently held by Tokyo and having Hong Kong finished in a close second.

This entry is a little dark and unintentionally obtuse.
Was in a friend's car this afternoon when this song started playing. It was his own compilation. Probably of classic rock songs.
Silent Lucidity - Queensryche.
This song won the highest award given by MTV Video Music Awards. MTV is driven by viewers hence the highest award ought not to be Best Video but Viewers' Choice. Best Video was Losing My Religion - REM.

I believe that was creatively thought up by a friend working in Tokyo for her colleague who was leaving Tokyo for Hong Kong. Of course, it would have been Good Bye Sushi, Hello Dim Sum! instead. It was scrawled on a cake meant for the farewell party of course.
I miss Hong Kong's weather.
Looking forward to Tokyo!

When I left UK, I did not close my Barclays Bank account.
I have about 164 pounds or so in that account.
The exchange rate then was about 2.71016 SGD to a British Pound.
It is now 3.01691 SGD to a British Pound.
So [(3.01691 - 2.71016)/2.71016 ]* 100% = 11.31852%
Which means that over the last 4 years or so, the value of my British Pounds in terms of Singapore Dollars appreciated by 11.3%. Hence considering that it was a period of 4 years, the yearly appreciation is 2.7% or so.
Wow! That's within the range of inflation. Which meant that my Pounds with respect to Singapore Dollars did not de-value while being kept idle in a bank.

Will be on the flight to Hong Kong in a couple of hours. Not exactly finished with the luggage but I think I can manage.
Besides the usual red packet, I don't really know what to get for Tommy and May.
I've known Tommy since my first year in Uni. Played badminton together and shopped for groceries together at Sainsbury's, ASDA, Tesco.....travelled together to Mallorca...and now he's getting married...
I racked my brains and finally gave up.
It was only minutes ago that I thought I will give him something really simple but which I hold dear.

I was on a train from Harbourfront to Boon Keng. Think it was at Outram Station, a lady whom I thought was pregnant came into the already crowded carriage. Seeing no one offering a seat, I looked up at her and stood up. Trying my utmost to communicate my offer to her without any verbal cues.
She shook her head a little and gave me a smile. I sensed that she meant to say she do not need a seat.
I furrowed my brows while looking at her. Not unkindly but with a certain compassion which I hope was apparent. I was insisting she take my seat considering her condition.
She raised her eyebrows. In reply. Telling me, "well, if you must insist".
I stood up and moved sideways, a diagonal path divergent to allow a direct path for her to the now empty seat.
She promptly did a pirouette at a measured distance from the seat's edge so that her body now faced away from it.
Our movement, her's towards the seat and mine, away from it, was unrehearsed yet perfectly timed. As if a pair of dancers, in transit on the North East Line, momentarily synchronous.
It was when the moment was over that I sneaked a look back at her.
I was held aghast by a thought.
"She may not be pregnant!"
How do you get out of such situations when it's presumed that chivalry is dead?

At first I thought it meant that "we" (the readers of the magazine) gets to choose.
Then I thought again. Maybe Time magazine editors went to Jiak Kim Street recently when DJ Sonny was spinning during one of his "You" nights.
Then I finally realised that the magazine meant "you", the netizens.
Like fuck it is.
It's just a fucking marketing gimmick! They know that a million (actually it's more than 11,389, 348) blogs and metablogs and webpages will be writing about how Time is naming "You" as the Person Of The Year. This will generate more exciting in the internet/worldwideweb/blogosphere etc etc. Netizens will just go crazy and gush their way through the next few days. Technorati will show that "Time Magazine You", "Person Of The Year", "Web 2.0" and all the other "buzzy words" they used topping the tags.
Last year it was Bono and the Gates. Year before that was George dubya Bush. His second time. That was in 2004. It should have been the year "Bloggers" were the Persons Of The Year.
So it's a postponement. And really, it feels like it's 2 years late.
Ok, I'm just being bitchy and adding to the fray. And by tagging this entry as such, I'm trying to shamelessly generate passing traffic. Whatever the fuck for? I don't know. Time Magazine says "YOU" can go decide.
Go sleep.

Attended my penultimate wedding dinner for the year. Alphonsus and Sandra. Have never met Sandra my whole life. But then again, I've not met many of the wives of my colleagues until the wedding banquet itself.
I don't think it's abnormal.
There's actually another wedding to attend on 30 Dec. But I should be out of town then. And so the last wedding I'll attend for the year will be Tommy's in Hong Kong.
I hope Hong Kong's not too cold. Same for Tokyo.
I'm listening to Primal Scream Dirty Hits and Joy Division Heart And Soul. Both are compilations. I don't know why I'm blogging this. I just felt like doing so. So there.

Was sitting on the foldable seat on the OS deck yesterday with 30 knots of relative wind and seaspray pounding on my face.
The warmth from the sun was streaming down but the heat was quickly dissipated by the wind. In the distant west and north, dark ominous clouds were threatening rain.
The sea was calm. Not mirror-like. The lack of swells meant that the rolls only heaved the vessel a little.
The glint from the bell and polished surfaces, perhaps a stray light reflecting off the water forced my eyes to squint. "Should have brought along my sunglasses." I thought to myself.
As the vessel veered towards the north then to the west after the wheel order was ordered, the on-rushing rain pelted my face as if it were a million slivers of ice needles. The relative wind now stronger, I felt the ring in my ears getting louder as if it was a natural filter to drown out the cacophony of sounds from the engines, conning orders and whirring sound from the exhaust.
It was then I felt like listening to Radiohead's Black Star.
I get home from work and you're still standing in your dressing
gown
Well what am I to do?
I know all the things around your head and what they do to
you.
What are we coming to?
What are we gonna do?
Blame it on the black star
Blame it on the falling sky
Blame it on the satellite that beams me home.
The troubled words of a troubled mind
I try to understand what is eating you.
I try to stay awake but its 58hrs since that I last slept with
you.
What are we coming to?
I just don't know anymore.
I get on the train and I just stand about now that I don't think
of you.
I keep falling over I keep passing out
When I see a face like you.
What am I coming to?
I'm gonna melt down.

Read this from the daily horroscope readings of My Yahoo!
Someone at your place of work could suddenly find you very attractive, dear Pisces, and make no secret of it today. How you respond, of course, depends on you, but if you don't reciprocate this person's feelings, don't respond positively simply because you're flattered. This could cause trouble for you down the line, particularly if this person holds a position of authority. Remember, you're a romantic. Hold out for the right person!

When did you first experience your Joy Division moment?
When routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
But emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways
Taking different roads
Then love,
Love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed
Our respect run so dry
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
But love,
Love will tear us apart again
Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings expose?
And there's a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can't function no more?
When love,
Love will tear us apart again

Tucked away on the western Sunset strip of San Antonio, Ibiza lies Café del Mar. It's a nondescript building by itself but since 1980, it's drawn millions of clubbers around the world to take a little (or bigger) jaunt to the cafe and the tiny beachfront and rock outcrop. Next to the building was Café Mambo and Savannah.

I wanted to blog about my trip to Café del Mar in 2002 and about the upcoming Café del Mar Singapore at Sentosa.
Was going through some of the pictures I took while I was in Ibiza. Will blog about those in a bit.
Found some other pictures that I wanted to share...
I read in the Rough Guide to Spain that the sunrise at the beaches of Barcelona were spectacular. So braving the morning chills and waking up at a ridiculous time of 5 plus in the morning, three of us made our way to the beach front of Barcelona.
We took a bus from around our hotel near Catalunya Plaza.
When we got to the beach, it was just starting to turn light. The other two girls were getting quite freaked cause of the stories we hear about beach bummers and PAFOs (pissed and fell over) in Barcelona.
We walked briskly to the beachfront and I can't really remember if it was the Barceloneta or the Sant Sebastia beach. Not that it really mattered.
I took this shot before getting to the beach (was still using film cameras then, olympus mju):
The scanned jpeg gave off more details. The actual photo was alot darker.
We breathed in the fresh air, standing, facing the Mediterranean Sea.
Then the sunrise began.
There was a lapse of about ten minutes or less. And as you can see from the two photos, the skyscape was changing rapidly....adding to the allure of the view.
It was such a beautiful sight....and after taking a couple of photos, we couldn't resist and took off our shoes and sandals and waded into the water.

Sometimes I do wonder about weird stuff.
Not the normal stuff like:
"what to wear to work today"
"what to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner"
"how much is that doggie in the window (yes, the one with the waggley tail, I do hope he's for sale).
I wonder about a woman's pulchritude. Why is it that bespectacled female holds such potential allure. Ladies with long hair held up in a bun. The hybrid of the two - a glass wearing female with long hair held up in a bun.
The potential that will be realised with the removal of the glasses (normally turtle shell) and letting down of her hair to reveal luscious curls.

Although we (Singaporeans) live on a tropical island just 1 degree north of the equator, we are subjected to the same physiological (dunno if it's the right words) changes that takes place around the world.
Humans, as a species, probably spent much of their time in the northern hemisphere. Which is to say, winter is from November through to February or so. And like most other animals, we pile on fats to get through the cold winter months. Due to the lack of sunshine, we get seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Maybe that is why towards the end of the year, more deaths occur. But that could be attributed to the cold weather directly ie. the poor and the old die from the cold either because they cannot afford heating or they suffer from illnesses.
The main point is about the piling of fats. Which leads to gaining of weight. The appearance of flab. And along with it, the whining of girls.
In the blogs that I read, some of which belong the girls, they are all talking about their weight. And a number of the blogs have the owner in a contemplative mood.
Here comes the interesting bit - what about those in the southern hemisphere? I guess they won't bitch so much since they are enjoying their summers. Maybe they'll complain about not having a "winter wonderland" during Christmas. They are always dreaming of a white Christmas. So no seasonal affective disorder down there.
What about putting on weight to get through the grueling months from November to February? Well, I think they are a little screwed here. Because they grow fatter during the year end (because of the way our genes are engineered) but get cold only during the middle of the year, they grow fat all year round.
So people down under, if they are sad, it's not the climate. It's their own bodies.
Sort of.

What holds two people together and what tears them apart?
What keeps a conversation going and what brings it to a halt?
What can maintain an interest and what can make it wane?
What occupies the space between two lovers' glance and what occupies the time between their silence?
What makes you yearn for a touch and what makes you retract from one?

OK. I've got some explanation to do.
Last year, V and I attended her gf's wedding. That was on 4th Dec 06. On my way to the banquet room, I passed a series of paintings which totally caught my attention. It was only when I excused myself to leave for the toilet that I managed to get a better look at them.
They were by Lin Bao Ling and when I got home, I did a google search and found some information. Blogged about it.
I did mention I was distracted by the waitresses at the lobby bar dressed up as santarinas. If only children who have been nice get toys from santa, the santarinas are there to make sure adults who are young at heart will never get any. Cause they get naughty thoughts with these santa little helpers hahahaha....
Recently I attended yf's brother's wedding. The paintings by him were no longer there. Instead it was another collection of rather interesting art works using acrylic on ceramic tiles. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the artist...
And today, I have the great honour of having the artist to visit my humble little blog. How did I know? Well..........
Cause Lin Bao Ling blogged about how pissed off HE was when HE read that I had referred HIM as a SHE/HER.
Hahahaha, sorry dude. Had no idea...
So I did the unsavoury thing by commenting on his blog and asking how he price his paintings because I did say his art can grace my wall when I do get a place of my own. It'll make a really good story to tell guests of the house.
here is his blog.

Haha, I made a complete blunder for not reading the flyer properly. It was their album launch but not that the band was actually going to be there....
I did turn up in the end, chatted with Ping for a few minutes. She was surprised that I was there alone. The music was great! Lots of indie pop, bubblegum pop and obscure (cause I'm ignorant) pop from japan and france...I didn't stay all the way at bbbc.
The rest of the people were going to be at Zouk for Armin van Buuren.
Which was where I eventually landed.
Nice to have mong and her cousin lawrence around. They can get into anywhere. Especially lawrence. Getting in through Phuture even though the FULL HOUSE sign was put up was easy peasy for him. No bouncer is too tough for him. Even those of MoS when Tiesto was spinning.
