A song a day 79

When every Thursday
I'd brave those mountain passes
And you'd skip your early classes
And we'd learn how our bodies worked.

..............

I don't know about you but I swear on my name they could smell it on me

A song a day 78

I wouldn't ask you to hold back the dawn by the door baby
That's just a little too much to ask of anyone
All that I ask, is for your loving ways
And I'll keep you happy for the rest of your natural born days

A song a day 77

Ever since this world began
There is nothing sadder than
A one-man woman looking for
The man that got away

Online Training Packages

Was telling anonymous about the test i had this afternoon. i dun think i aced it but i definitely did more than enough to pass. got most it correct i think.

studying for it was a bitch. mainly because it was a test that needed very basic skills like visual recognition (of ships) and memory work (weapon and sensor specifications).

anonymous was nice enough to help me out with the studying. mainly with recognition training.

Anonymous' Ship Recognition Training Package

For each of the picture below, you are given 30 seconds to provide the identity of the vessel.

1)

Sampan

2)

Black Sheep

3)

Little Black Sheep

4)

Worship / Black warsheep

5)

Anonymous claims that the answer for the last one is Baa Baa Black Sheep. But I challenged that answer. The answer should be Baaa Black Sheep. In order to get Baa Baa Black Sheep, the "Baa" should be bracketed, like so: (Baa).

Well, she was nice enough to send me a e-card from Hallmark (When you care enough to send the very best - that's the company tagline right?) wishing me luck. Thanks dudette!

Some guys get all the luck

There are days when you wake up feeling totally confident of yourself.

You may have tumbled down the stairs, life may have dealt you with the lousiest of cards. But you just feel so shit sure about yourself.

Sure as shit.

You don't even need to comb your hair because you are cocksure. Sure as cock.

This is not one of those days.

Something about this xkcd comic makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Just like a voice from a vocoder. (pic from xkcd)

Death becomes him

The CNY period had been particularly good to me.

*****
CO gave each of us a $3 Big Sweep ticket for luck and won a small prize of $30.
Attended a CNY Mess Dinner and won a small lucky draw prize of an NTUC $10 voucher.
HongBao TOTO won $120.
*****

When you haven't experience Lady Luck in your whole life....you begin to doubt (
like I always do). In my reply to Kittystar when she commented that there is nothing one can do to a pessimist because "A pessimist will always question happiness..." to which I replied "A pessimist knows no happiness..".

It's all just silly talk of course, kinda.

Told my mum last night that I think I'm gonna have a sudden death. People, please prepare my funeral song. see here here here here here....damn.

What grew?

And inside who?

Thomas Pink

I guess it's not necessary to blow up the current buzz surrounding Thomas Pink yeah?

Haven't I been telling anyone who would listen to bring this label into Singapore?

Since 2005! ah!

You aren't missing if nobody realise that you're gone 2008

Just like what I did two years ago.....

MSN:
Jade - Haha, you were the first! By virtue of your timezone and sleeping hours.
Mongster - So when's the next time you gonna mix chivas and whatever else?

FaceBook:
Jean - hope Seoul has been good to you, Kenneth and little Timothy.
Chiewmei - what a nice re-discovery of my verbal-sparring nemesis...I'm no longer as sharp, if I ever was.
Yuwen - have fun in London! and holler to Yugin and Amy too!
Queenie - thanks thanks! have a great year ahead with your fiance.
weichean - great travelblog you've got going although it's inconsistently maintained.
Marilyn Lee - thanks! haha, you should be the president of the TT and Party group!
Randall - haha, even your attempt to be witty was feeble. there is no Feb 29 in 1979 bro!
Roland - Sir, paiseh. Have to learn to be selfish, finally.
Kenny C - When and where will we ever meet again?!
Yugin - How's Amy? Send my regards. And Lucienne is done with her Ph.D. When is yours done?
Ansen - come back quick....i may leave my current workplace. but our KL apartment plan remains....

Telephone:
Pinyan - you were the first. just a minute past. but you wish curt kobain a happy belated 39th instead. He should be 41 this year had he lived dawg....or was it playing with my real age? damn, i look that old?
Huihui - great attempt at anglocising teochew; sey jit kuai lok! hahaha....
Mel - thanks for the advice you gave when you found out about me having a dog. hehehe...
Nicholas - you wimp! chickened out on leaving? but you're fine to stay...you've got a car, a wife, a HDB....I got none of the above.
Shuyun - Thanks! Always great to come out for a meal, even when we are not looking for property..
Yewfei - Fantastic idea of a drink up, I mean, meet up. When become father.
Jinks - Budd, I may leave you...for pastures which I can only hope is greener. See how it goes.
Benjamin Teo - we have to move up on a higher level of training soon. Sundown marathon!!
Andy Seow - Thanks! The card as well.
Yvonne - Cheers! And the irony of receiving a phonecall from you about meeting up for drinks while I am awaiting to see my doctor for hypertension.
Bryan - Huat ar! Did I tell you I won TOTO?
SAF Yacht Club - erm... who do I thank?
AGZR - Didn't I tell you we'd win if we share TOTO? Not bad right? Thanks for the fishhead steamboat dinner. =)

Also a great big thank you to my father, mother, bro and sis.....and bro especially for "The Book Of Digital Photography.

P.S. my 3rd aunt as well, who was the first with the belated greetings!

Sweet Angle [sic]

There was this sillyporelian girl in my college. Two of us, we were the only two sillyporelian/bengs in Derwent.

And she has this reputation of not particularly liking sillyporebengs. but i laid the trap that can lure just about any true-blue singaporelian.......food. wasn't it tom yam bee hoon?

it was great meeting up again. dimunitive in size but her voice and nature more than made up for the lack of physical stature.

when we met up 2 days back, we were still talking about braving the bitter cold rain after Homelands in 2000 together with Chin (married now, but he was the one who slipped a letter under her door, professing his love for his "sweet angle" - she is a English Lit student). the bowl of matterly estate in Winchester was the first of my dance festival. would never have done it without you.

Congrats on your Ph.D! And for always filling me in on your latest blonde-hair, blue-eyed conquests. Haha....I can always remember the 2nd last morning of my first year. You might have forgotten but it was so funny the way you came tumbling down the stairs confessing.....

you've always been an excellent friend who never fail to look me up when you're in town. thanks for being ever so welcoming.

good luck in london. or warwick.

A song a day 74

I hesitate to say I was bait for you. Could that be something that you all would do? I'd be lying if I did now say, "I wasn't intrigued!" But timing is everything here and for the moment the 'we' is reprieved.

Horrorscope - Cloud No. 9

The financial picture continues to improve, dear Pisces. At some point during the day, you might have the feeling that you're not working hard enough to keep your current forward motion going, and you might feel a panic rising. This might prove to be a good motivating factor, but you don't need to push yourself much harder than you're doing now. You're on a roll, and it's likely to continue. Keep moving, just pace yourself.
Read only the bad stuff

No, my financial picture is still in the red although it is indeed improving. I do think that I can do with less cash in hand and I should really look at a good alternate liquid source. One that is a lot more flexible than unit trusts and not as exposed to market forces. I'm on a roll? - this single statement is the most accurate, downhill, that's the direction of the roll. Keep moving? No way jose, I think a tactical switch is due. Perhaps a little tweaking of the strategy as well....the times - they are a-changin'

Only This Moment

[OK]

Only this moment - Holds us together
Close to perfection - Nothing else out there
No one to guide us - Lost in my senses
Deep down inside I know our love will die

[OK]

Only this moment - Holds us together
Lost in confusion - Feelings are out there
Scared of devotion - Doubting intentions
Deep down inside I know our love will die

[Stay or forever go]
[Play or you’ll never know]
[What heaven decided]
[You can’t deny it’s all you’ve been waiting for]

[OK]

[Stay or forever go]
[Play or you’ll never know]
[Your spirit's divided]
[You will decide if I’m all you’ve been waiting for]

Guilt in my head hath been parted by grace by the voice of an angel revealing her face and her words they make sense and I do understand falling in love isn’t part of a plan

Forces within me mix reason with lust but I try to accept it and not make it worse cause I know I might lose you by taking the chance but love without pain isn’t really romance

[OK]

Only this moment - Holds us together
Close to perfection - Nothing is out there
Always beside her - Trusting my senses
Deep down inside I know love will survive

Only this moment - Holds us together
Close to perfection - Nothing else out there
Always beside her - Trusting my senses
Deep down inside I know love will survive

Jaunts

Received a harangue from kittystar at winebar on friday night for dare visiting clubsnap.

I was trying to explain that my current macro interest was to teach myself the technical aspects of photography so that as a style (if any) does develop, it can do so with a foundation instead of in tandem.

Ok, that made more sense with a vodka ribena in hand. And I cannot beat her eye for great composition and mood creation.

Like how I replied to an anonymous (haha, you know who you are) commentator some time ago, I merely depressed the shutter-release when things were in focus. Everybody with the correct equipment can capture that. see here.

So after a hearty breakfast with auntie, went around the same place I was last week.

Not a very good start but, I still like how this pic turned out.
reach

Then saw this reflection off the polished tiles of a building. The heavy line down from upper right to the middle is on the building itself. I don't photoshop. Yet.
This picture started me on a "Twins" search today. Didn't materialise of course.
twin

Don't you think there is a missing part in this picture? It's almost symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time.

I decided to focus on just the sheltered walkway. Looks like a leave.
leaf

I thought this was interesting as well. For two reasons. It is not typical for the lock to be above the handle right? And also, it's very obvious which knob is used more often.

Details on a baroque-esque tile. Last "Twins' photo. No, no Gillian Chung.

Lollipop in the city. And this picture attracted the attention of the security guards ("Oh, you not taking picture of our building? Ok, ok, you can take. Take." - whatever....)

I like this shot, kinda. So very pretentious. Yay-ness.

A song a day 73

I will try and move on but I'll remember you
Don't think I can forget
Only I might regret breaking the promises I've made
Cause I don't thirst for more, don't hunger like before

I can't pretend another day
I'm not sure no more that we're worth fighting for

All the lyrics-site I came across got the lyrics wrong by the way. Mine's 100% correct. Yes, I am pretty stoked and smug about it.

Days of our lives

It's always been a nice thing to catch up with primary school mates(huihui, shuyun, yvonne, meiyi, dinesh, guoliang, satheesh, junjie and yisheng on overseas call). The one I had on Friday night was especially good cause Satheesh and Dinesh turned up. And it was ys's birthday so we called him while he was having his own (clean) fun in aussieland.

Dinner was at Hong Kong St Seafood along the Novena stretch. Fantastic food and with affordable prices. Dinner for 7 came up to be 130+. We had the customary lo hei yu sheng of course. It's still the Lunar New Year after all.

We adjourned to Harry's at Novena Velocity and had plenty more to drink. It was only there that guoliang (female 50 most gorgeous hor, dun pray pray) and satheesh (probably bedded a number of gorgeous birds) came to join us. Plenty of drinks working as the social lubricant.

Man, when you've got friends who've known you for the last 22 of your 29 years, you know you ain't doing too bad as a human.

A pity weiwen (haha), zhikun, qinglin and some others couldn't join. Huihui forgot to inform howard. duh!

I totally like the photos in here.

Lucky 13

The compilation that I will leave it as it is. 13 semi-sweet love songs for people who prefer dark instead of milk chocolate.

The Wannadies - You And Me Song
you tell me i'm a real man and try to look impressed. not very convincing but you know i love it

Peter Bjorn & John featuring Victoria Bergsman - Young Folks
i would go along with someone like you. it doesn't matter what you did, who you were hanging with

Aimee Mann and Michael Penn - Two Of Us
you and i have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead

Iron And Wine - Naked As We Came
i lay smiling like our sleeping children. one of us will die inside these arms

Pulp - Something Changed
where would i be now if we'd never met? would i be singing this song to someone else instead?

Feist - Mushaboom
and we'll collect the moments one by one. i guess that's how the future's done

The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
i am thinking it's a sign that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images and when we kiss they're perfectly aligned

Jewel - Morning Song
you can be henry miller and i'll be anais nin. except this time it'll be even better, we'll stay together in the end

Jesus and Mary Chain - Just Like Honey
i'll be your plastic toy for you

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps
made off. don't stray. well my kind's your kind. i'll stay the same!

Nick Drake - Northern Sky
now you are here. brighten up my northern sky

Fiona Apple - Across The Universe
limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, it calls me on and on

The Moldy Peaches - Anyone Else But You
you're a part time lover and a full time friend

My online twin made a playlist as well. I swear it is coincidental that we both made a list. And that our list has Mushaboom, Feist and The Postal Service. Everything But The Girl was number 15 on my list. Missed the cut with Apron Strings. Decided to take out RHCP. So number 14 - Maps by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, came in from the outside although it is dedicated to their fans.

A song a day 72

And your heart hasn't found a home
Endlessly it seems to roam
One day you will find
Inexhaustible ecstasy
And you will see
That you're beautiful and always have been
And everybody else can see
The love that you've been looking for
Is right there inside your door

A song a day 71

I'll describe the way I feel
Weeping wounds that never heal

I'll describe the way I feel
You're my new Achilles heel

Can the savior be for real
Or are you just my seventh seal?

No hesitation, no delay
You come on just like special K

No escaping gravity

Stop me......

Uh-Oh: what price for Swiss standard of living?

Further east, Singapore has likewise turned itself into a major offshore haven by not taxing capital gains or income derived from outside the city-state. It's also eaiser now for foreigners to gain permanent residency, as long as they have at least $1.1 million (US) to invest in a Singapore-based start-up or venture-capital fund, or $3.5 million to stick in a local financial instotution. And while the E.U. Is forcing European banks to open up to the authorities, Singapore has strengthened its customer confidentiality laws: anyone who reveals private financial information faces a fine of up to $88,000 and three years in prison.
Then there are Singapore's new trust laws, which help the rich keep their fortunes in the family by letting them pass assets on to beneficiaries tax-free. And the perks strongly favr foreigners. 'To get all the benefits one must not be Singaporean,' says Michael Troth. 'Singapore is becoming the predominant provider of trust services to our Asian clients.'

Duncan Sheik

The news about Duncan Sheik being awarded the Grammy in the category for Musical Show Album was really fantastic. He was first nominated for Best Pop Vocal Male in 1998 for "Barely Breathing". But the bigger news was how the decade in between was so kind to him.

Musical Show Album: "Spring Awakening," Duncan Sheik, producer; Duncan Sheik, composer; Steven Sater, lyricist
(Original Broadway Cast With Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele & Others).

Oh, and so Herbie Hancock beats Amy Winehouse to Album Of The Year. So? Give that man something to go home with already. He was standing on the good shoulders of giants before him. It was a relief that Amy Winehouse was standing throughout her satellite-beamed performance.

A song a day 70

What is a youth? Impetuous fire.
What is a maid? Ice and desire.
The world wags on.

A rose will bloom
It then will fade
So does a youth.
So does the fairest maid.

Comes a time when one sweet smile
Has its season for a while...Then love's in love with me.
Some they think only to marry, Others will tease and tarry,
Mine is the very best parry. Cupid he rules us all.
Caper the cape, but sing me the song,
Death will come soon to hush us along.
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall.
Love is a task and it never will pall.
Sweeter than honey...and bitter as gall
Cupid he rules us all

Baz Luhrumann's R+J (1996) practically made this song from Franco Zeffirelli 1968 movie invisible.

Marina Mandarin AIR Program

Ok, regulars will know what I'm on about.

Lin Bao-Ling is starting another Artist-In-Residence program (AIR with PKW and 253倉庫). Under the auspice of Asian Art Options Gallery and Marina Mandarin, he will be in his studio every Tue, Thu and Sat from 1 to 6pm. The beginnings of Nocturne IV perhaps? Hahaha...he is not very creative with the names of his solo exhibitions.

Marina Mandarin is not a stranger to his art. In fact, it was in this hotel that I first saw his work.

Head on down for a look see won't you?

Haha, I will definitely pop down. Cause I owe him 500 bucks. And if he is alright with it, chart his progress in full digital glory. Sorta.

¥ou're the truth not I.

P.S. I Love You

Why is this movie so widely panned by critics? Have they not feelings? Don't they feel entertained by this 2hr movie with lots of great songs. But weirdly, the soundtrack available don't include stuff like Judy Garland's The Man Who Got Away (with a very hilarious Hillary Swank singing over it) and Camera Obscura's Lloyd I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken. It does have Paolo Nutini who is Scottish and not Irish. Ok, the film has some Irish connection. Why did I only sightsee around Dublin and the various famous lochs and castles.....should have gone on further.

It's not a weepie like what I was prepared for. Instead I found it absolutely and wonderfully uplifting. What is wrong with me. It is so unlike myself to be so positive. I am beginning to doubt where my old self is. (wtf? was that last sentence actually necessary? wth? am i talking to myself, again?)

Is it worth the money? I don't know. But it's worth the time (definitely).

As we are

I appreciate honesty.

And to read the way Shah Rukh Khan dissects his latest Bollywood offering, Om Shanti Om, is just pure magic. He knows how non-fans perceive Bollywood as this ott 2plus hour musical with too much singing and dancing and a too familiar plot.

"It's kitschy. There's no denying that," he said.

"It's a lot of colour. It's a little louder than loud. But that's the kind of people Indians are.

"We do express ourselves a little loudly. We get angry louder, cry louder and laugh louder."
"We wanted people to know that our movies are like this and we're very proud of it," Khan said.

However King Khan is very proud of this fact. And he never proclaims to be arty about it. If you can cook only fried eggs, say that you can cook only fried eggs. Don't explain why there are only eggs in your fridge. Erm......ok, so that analogy doesn't really work......

"I would like to introduce different aspects of my country, without apologising about the fact we make a certain type of cinema.

He is not disillusioned about making it big elsewhere with his status as the reigning king of Bollywood.

"I'm 42 years old. I'm a little bit brown. There is no space or place for me," he said.

"It's not like I land in New York or Los Angeles and Steven Spielberg's waiting for me. He's not."

I like this line a whole lot. Too bad we don't see many of his Singaporean fans wearing bell-bottoms.

"But we'll still wear the bell-bottoms. We like that."

Eh, wait a minute.

Red Door

reddoor

Went around Ann Siang and Club St area after Hong Lim breakfast. Uninspiring day. Stopped by a 7-eleven and had a can of heine.

Walked along and saw the sun blaring down on the side of this shophouse. The red from the door and window seems to be bleaching into the whole photo. I don't know why.

Checking the exif, only thing that was obviously wrong was the iso speed. Too high at 400. But it's on auto mode.

Weird.

Phuket Thailand!

I guess I wonder if people ever stay together for good.

Juno is well-paced and does not have many unnecessary lines. Cannot think of any major flaw. Maybe the choice of music seems to fall into the "indie flick" theme. But it works. Nobody should complain. Will The Moldy Peaches make it big time because of this movie. Maybe not but the band is definitely going to garner more attention.

This movie works because the perspective is refreshing. Teenage unwanted pregnancy with a twist. I really really hope an indie flick will win a Best Picture. But, maybe not this one. Not yet. Ellen Page is a bright young talent. I hope she keeps her head on her shoulders when she chooses future movie roles.

I think I want a part-time lover and a full-time friend too.

P.S. "Phuket Thailand!" is an American rhyming slang for fuck it. Like Cockney.

Resolutions

I wish to use these words more often this new Lunar New Year (so that I can be more pretentious) :

Bracing - Haha, such a nice sounding word. Does what it means, which is to refresh. It could be mistaken for a kangaroo word. "Bracing" with the joey word "racing".

Gander - Informally, it means to stare. And if you use the word and the person you are speaking to does not know the meaning, haha, all the more so you should use it because the informal meaning is " a ninny or simpleton". Not just a male goose. A female goose is - a goose! Collective noun being gaggle but be careful, when flying in formation they become a skein or wedge.

Feckless - Like reckless. Having no sense of responsibility. And also incompetent.

Vacuous - Used specifically to mean devoid of substance; meaning. Not unintelligent. Like my pretentious way of life. But somehow, it's neither tiring nor inconsistent.

Supercilious - I will use this word instead of "punch-me look" when describing people with disdainful faces.

Nich + Jam was so kind to have us over for a little CNY gathering. Although not everyone was there (2 were missing!)

The happy couple were married last year and I was helping them with the photography. Did not do a very good job but I guess it was sufficient for record purposes. Moreover, it's was only my second attempt after helping yf and sj with their wedding.

Thanks Nich + Jam for the lovely meal. Your home looks neat and tidy. Need some "lived-in" to make it really cosy haha....I hope the few of us helped last night. Not sure if you read this blog (hmmmmmm) but I promise to put up what was written in your CNY card soon. It's with an auntie right now (haha).

Words

Sometimes it's just the way a mixbag of words are strung together.

To read a poem.

Be fascinated by the imagery. Or fall into the hypnotic rhythm of an iambic pentameter. The tone of which seldom you hear in time.

Nature doesn't fool around just being decorative.

I second that opinion. Attraction in nature happens for a reason. Nature has no room for vanity.

Letters from Iceland is a travelogue written in poetry and prose by Auden and MacNeice. (not Spender or Isherwood, surprise surprise!)

Homosexuality does create a grievous effect on word play. Wystan Hugh Auden - Hush, unWanted gAy

Story Bytes - from Kite Runner

Story from Kite Runner (this shouldn't be a spoiler)

Once upon a time there was poor man. One day, he stumbled upon a cup. He didn't think much of the cup. Tears started rolling down as he bemoans his bad luck. The tears that landed in the cup became pearls. It was a magic cup! In the end, the man was found lying atop a pile of pearls holding his dead wife in his arms.

Hassan:
Why did the man have to kill his wife?
Couldn't he just rub onion in his eyes?

Mysteries of life. How do you remove it from a pessimist. How do you save him from the darkness?

Away From Her

I remember there was once this email meme that I filled up before. I remember that there was a question inside that went something like "What name would you give to your first daughter?"

Weirdly, the name jados wanted for her daughter was the same one I would have given - Chloe.

I remember quite well, or perhaps I imagined to have remembered well, that there was this other question. It was asking what was your greatest fear.

Some of the friends I hang out with might think it's wet sticker labels (very funny....haha....ok, don't tease me with that) that I fear the most. But I remembered (or imagined to have done so) putting down "desperation" as the answer.

I dread being in despair. I fear the choices I might have to make and the decisions I might take in desperate moments. Or worse, to be so desperate that there are simply no choices.

I must have said to a close friend once about this other dread that I have. And that is not to be able to remember my past. As one would if stricken by Alzheimer's or dementia. What are you if not a composite of where you have been?

I thoroughly enjoyed myself watching the movie Away From Her. It should be made compulsory for all married couples above 65 as well as families with elderly.

When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.

A song a day 65

You can't hold it too tight
These matters of security

You don't have to be wound so tight
Smoking on the balcony
But it's like sleaze in the park

"You women, you have no self-control"
The angels remark,
"Outside, you are known for insatiable needs"

I don't know a thing

I've seen love and I follow the speed in the starlight
I've seen love and I follow the speed in the star-swept night

Yeah, pace is the trick

And to all the destruction in man

Well I see you as you take your pride, my lioness
Your defenses seem wise.
I cannot press
And attention are demised, my lioness

Can't you hurt it some, think I hurt it

Sweeney Todd and Kite Runner

Watched two movies over Friday and Saturday. Sweeney Todd and Kite Runner.

Sweeney Todd
Could have been better. I don't think I really like the genre. Musicals. The tiresome side-plot of boy meets girl and the two fall madly in love immediately (cue duet) is one huge bugbear. Tim Burton with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter forms a very coherent threesome. It's always a joy to watch Johnny Depp but I really hope to see him in a drama soon. He was spectacular in Donnie Brasco and I always doubted his Grammy nod for Pirates. Similarly for Sweeney Todd. I think he is just a safe nominee to attract interest. Johnny Depp has tremendous following, guys wanna be him, gays wanna do him, girls wanna have him, mothers wanna adopt him....something like that. Johnny Depp is no stranger to the music scene. He played guitar on the Help! album under the WARCHILD label. The track he guested on was Fade Away by Oasis. His then partner was Kate Moss, who played the tambourine on the track. I guess guys don't mind either of his partners as well.....Kate Moss or Vanessa Paradis.

Kite Runner
This movie is worth watching. Stumbling a little about a third into the movie but managed to pick it all up with a little bit of action thrown in. This movie starts in a time where Afghanistan was not facing a Russian invasion. Don't be shocked by the wealth and apparent stability. The degradation of Kabul paces the lives of Amir, the male lead. And the ending, if only hopefully so, points to a possible re-emergence of the middle east when all the mess is gone. I particularly like this quote from Amir's father: All the mullahs want our souls. And the communists are saying we don't have one. Please watch this.

Lighthouse

She stands tall and erect on a rocky outcrop.
The regulated light she shows is to guide. Away not towards. Like a warning sign.
Keep off.
She lets the waves have their way with her. Cresting her spectacularly as they break.
But if you're not malleable she will crush you with equal spectacle.

The ebbing of tide reveals the scars.
Metal masts and wooden hulls surround the edge. Coming to rest at where they have made their closest approach.
Like a mess of broken hearts and love debris. Haphazardly displaced yet seemingly arching towards her.

She faces the storms and seas alone.
She witnesses the wax and wane of the moon. The winds buffet and the waves pound as she withstood silently. She looks forlorn, awaiting.
But that's just you. For she is emotionless and devoid of life.

Word play

I wonder if you've seen this phrase being used in some 'team-building' activities: There is no 'I' in a TEAM.

Interestingly, there is a 'I' in a THREESOME as well.

But there are 'ME's in a TEAM and a THREESOME.

Not funny?

Re: Comments left on littlefish.blogspot.com

Dear Sir/Madam,

I received 2 comments that required my moderation this morning. Both of which was left anonymously hence I am unable to ascertain your gender. Actually, had you left your name, I would be none the wiser. As you have so elegantly put it, "www world" is indeed "evil".

I have published the second of your 2 comments (accepting, naively so) and acceded to your request of not publishing the first. Yes, I do recognise the gravity of the situation. Indeed, your first comment MUST never be published.

It is true I moderate all my comments. And in the end, most, if not all, get published. I respond to comments as well. So not to worry, had you commented on a blog entry that I published 4 years ago, I will still notice.

I am in a generous mood hence I am acceding to all your requests (if you can remember all of them). I will let your anonymity continue in the "evil www world".

And MOST importantly, I will NOT laugh at your email address. (ya. right. seriously.)

Yours Sincerely,
Littlefish

Heart And Soul - one will burn

Heart And Soul

Instincts that can still betray us,
A journey that leads to the sun.
Soulless and bent on destruction,
A struggle between right and wrong.
You take my place in the showdown,
I'll observe with a pitiful eye,
I'll humbly ask for forgiveness,
A request well beyond you and I.

Heart and soul, one will burn.
Heart and soul, one will burn.

An abyss that laughs at creation,
A circus complete with all fools.
Foundations that lasted the ages,
Then ripped apart at their roots.
Beyond all this good is the terror,
The grip of a mercenary hand.
When savagery turns all good reason,
There's no turning back.
No last stand.

Heart and soul, one will burn.
Heart and soul, one will burn.

Existence well what does it matter?
I exist on the best terms I can.
The past is now part of my future,
The present is well out of hand.

The present is well out of hand.

Heart and soul, one will burn.
Heart and soul, one will burn.
One will burn, one will burn.
Heart and soul, one will burn.

A song a day 64

Désolé - even if I scream I can't scream that loud.

I'm all alone again.
Crawling back home again.
Stuck by the phone again.

Well, I've been here before.....

P I S C E S | The Partner for Life

Caring and kind. Smart. Center of attention. Messy at times and irresponsible! Smart but lazy. High appeal. Has the last word. Good to find, hard to keep. Passionate, wonderful lovers. Fun to be around. Too trusting at times and gets hurt easily. Lover of animals. VERY caring, make wonderful nurses or doctors. They always try to do the right thing sometimes get the short end of the stick. They sometimes [g]et used by others and hurt because of their trusting. Extremely weird but in a good way. Good Sense of Humour!!! Thoughtful. Always gets what he or she wants. Loves to joke. Very popular. Silly, fun and sweet. Good friend to other[s] but need to be choosy on who they allow their friends to be.
