Misunderstood?

*This pop up over a msn chat with jados who is coming back friday, people....

There are two words that is often used in a negative way. The connotation is just negative. Even the antonym sounds negative.

"Incorrigible" and "Unscrupulous".

The former means incapable of being corrected or set right while the latter means to be oblivious to principles, right and wrong.

The opposite is "Corrigible" and it of course means that it can be set right. But even corrigible sounds negative. Doesn't it?

Same for scrupulous. A man of scruples is a man of principles, able to tell between right and wrong. yet "A man of scruples" still sounds negative.

If we look at the word "Discriminate", we think of racial segregation, blacks versus whites and stuff like that. Negative. But when we read about "Indiscriminate", we think of terrorists, wanton killings (haha, dry with more chilli please) and the overwhelming force of a non-righteous force. Negative.

So if discriminate is bad. Indiscriminate seems worse.

Discriminate|Indiscriminate is different from Flammable|Inflammable. Because instead of turning from bad to worse by adding the prefix in-, both words mean the same thing....Flammable = Inflammable.
